This Parador occupies an old hundred year old mill located in the Isabel la Catolica Park, one of the most beautiful spots of the town of Gijon.

From its former use, there is an ancient water course and a beautiful mill pond providing harmony and tranquillity to the area.

San Lorenzo beach is close by enabling an enjoyable stay here for many unforgettable days.

The interior recreates a cozy atmosphere with comfortable and sunny facilities. The bar is particularly attractive overlooking a small island with many types of birds enjoying the water including black and white swans.

In accordance with the tradition of the Paradors, the restaurant specialises in local dishes. At the Molino Viejo the most famous dishes are:

"Fabada" which is a rich stew of beans, pork, etc. and ("fabes") are also included in the preparation of many other dishes;
"Caldereta de marisco" is a delightful fish stew;
"Chopa a la sidra" is locally caught fish cooked in cider;
"Merluza con cocochas" which is a hake based dish;
"Pote Asturiano", a vegetable and pork soup which may be served at the end of the meal unless requested at the beginning (also ask for it very hot);
The dessert menu includes rice pudding, "frixuelos" (cream filled wafers) and "casadielles" (fried sweet with dried fruit).

Try the wines from the Galicia region with your meal including the Ribeiros and Valdeorras.

Lovers of Asturias cider "sidra", and others, should ask to see the special room reserved for drinking this regional specialty.

Gijon is a busy town original based in the fishing port. The fishing boats at anchor in the harbour at high tides can be seen six hours later lying on the sand. Cimadevilla, the sailors' quarter in the town is worth a visit.

Places in Gijon worth visiting include the Church of San Juan Bautista, the Museum and the house of Jovellanos.

An interesting day trip is a visit to the striking mountains known as Picos de Europa. The driving can be broken with visits to the cathedral of Oviedo and the sanctuary of Covadonga.

Other places to visit include the wildlife reserve of Muniellos, and the lakes of Enol and Ercina.

Festivals in Gijon include El Antroxu which is held on Carnival Tuesday (the last day before lent), the Black Week which is held in July) and the celebration of the day of San Miguel which is September 29th. For film lovers, there is a Cinema Festival held every year in November.
This Parador has thirty four twin bedded rooms, five rooms with a double bed and a single room.

All rooms have a private bathroom and there is a telephone, satellite television, safe and  mini bar.

Also for the comfort of your stay there is heating, air conditioning, piped music, meeting rooms, restaurant and bar. The Parador has facilities for the disabled.

The Parador is located in the residential area of Gijon, in the middle of the Isabel La Católica park, next to the El Molinon football stadium and the Asturias Trade Show enclosure. Gijon is 28 km from Oviedo along the A-66 motorway and 30 km by the N-630 main road.
