This Parador is located in the illustrious town of Villafranca del Bierzo, the capital of this very beautiful region and former station on the route travelling to Santiago. Its architecture reflects a Galician style and the decoration is marked with Castilian accents.
The landscapes of the Ancares mountain range to the north complement the beauty of the Parador's garden filled with flowers and bushes, and the wild grapevine which spreads onto the facade of the building. The interior is characterized by a traditional Castilian style seen in the furniture in the entrance halls, chairs, and wrought iron lamps. Wooden floors found throughout offer a feeling of elegance and comfort while the welcoming and comfortable living room is one of the most pleasant spaces of the Parador. In the restaurant sample some of the regional dishes such as: trout with lard and peppers, "botillo" (local sausage), "empanada" (stuffed pie), and Bierzo veal stew. Visit the historic district of Villafranca del Bierzo declared a Historic-Artistic Monument, the pre-Romanic church and the Celtic huts of O'Cebreiro, and particularly the old Roman gold mines of Las Medulas which is a spot declared a Heritage of Mankind. On January 28th enjoy the San Tirso Procession with pipers and music bands. Attend the Easter celebrations with its sacred music concerts and the Feasts of Santisimo Cristo de la Esperanza held on September 14th. Discover the 'sierra' (mountains) of Ancares. You may take excursions by foot or bike, fly in a parapente or go fishing, hunting, swimming, or canoeing on the Burbia river. The accommodation in this hotel of the Paradors group is in twenty eight twin bedded rooms, ten rooms with a double bed and one suite. All the rooms have private bathrooms.
